YOUR VOTE MATTERS!

And we aren’t kidding.

Exercising your right to vote, in EVERY election, insures that we elect people who represent us and respect democracy.

LOCAL ELECTIONS ARE IMPORTANT.

Local government forms the grassroots of our democracy.

LOCAL government has the most direct impact on our daily lives.

It impacts the maintenance of our roads, public safety, the quality of our schools, our parks, our water. Our ability to prepare for and respond to emergencies.

Things that impact us every day.

So we need YOU and everyone else to show up and VOTE. Every year.

Because it’s important for everyone.

YOUR Voting Information

First, it’s important to check to be sure you are registered to vote at your current address. Many past voters have been removed from the voter registration rolls. Use the link below to:

  • Confirm that you are registered to vote at your current address

  • Get a list of all of the districts that cover the place you live (they’re the ones where your vote matters!)

  • Identify your polling place (once the list for the upcoming election is completed)

If you receive a “Vote by Mail” Ballot, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you either fill it out and mail it back as soon as possible, or better yet -

Take care to research candidates and vote for ALL levels - including Carolyn “Lyn” Campbell for County Board - and take it to a ballot DROP BOX location to be sure it is received and your vote is counted!

Property Taxes

Property taxes support several different units of local government. No matter where you live in McHenry County, the majority of your property taxes support your local schools - and your school district board is responsible for determining how much you pay.

The McHenry County Board is responsible for 6-7% of your total property tax bill.

Where do your property tax dollars go?

Here are a few examples showing what % of our property taxes support different units of local government.

It depends on where you live!
